Erdogan's revenge extorts EU economy

EU will bow to Erdogan now.

Erdogan is now in a position to leverage his military, political and economic "doorman" power. The failed coup may have been staged. Its result shows what Erdogan can do to further destabilize relations with Europe and its economies.  He has already detained over 21,000 people.- Soren K.

Erdogan's strong cards are

  1. Chaos power- he's shown what instability will do to the region, even if he faked it.
  2. Destabilize region- He can purge his own country of Kurds and start another refugee influx into Europe
  3. Syrian Regugees- Turkey has over 1MM  Syrian refugees he can deport
  4. Populism- his victory was in large part driven by people in the streets. flash mob support

We stated earlier and friday the coup seemed "off" to us. Today:

Coup was a fake, Erdogan eliminates enemies- Soren K.

There is also speculation that the coup itself may have been less that motivated to win. There was no political support even from Erdogan's enemies. Coup military had Erdogan's plane in their sites but DID NOT FIRE ON HIM. We think it convenient that Erdogan immediately blamed CIA as backers. We also are raising an eyebrow at how quickly the "right" people were rounded up.  Then made threats against the US if the "inspirational clerics was not handed over. And just now: Europe Voices Concern Coup Was Staged With "Prepared Arrest Lists"

From Reuters -

The swift rounding up of judges and others after a failed coup in Turkey indicated the government had prepared a list beforehand, the EU commissioner dealing with Turkey's membership bid, Johannes Hahn, said on Monday.

Following a failed coup attempt on Saturday, Turkish authorities on Sunday rounded up nearly 3,000 suspected military plotters, ranging from top commanders to foot soldiers, and the same number of judges and prosecutors.

"It looks at least as if something has been prepared. The lists are available, which indicates it was prepared and to be used at a certain stage," Hahn said.

Democracy demands death

Erdogan on Sunday told crowds of supporters,  that parliament must consider their demands to apply the death penalty for the plotters. "We cannot ignore this demand," he told a chanting crowd outside his house in Istanbul late on Sunday. "In democracies, whatever the people say has to happen."- Zerohedge

The failed coup emboldened Erdogan and will create more instability in Europe. This, while France is reeling from terorist attacks, and Brexit still looms. Finally, other coutries are considering leaving the EU.
