Brexit campaigning has been put on hold following the murder of MP Jo Cox. A supporter of keeping Britain in the EU, Jo Cox was brutally shot and stabbed by a 52-year old man yelling “Britain first” – the name of a far-right group in Britain.
Both campaigns, Britain Stronger In Europe and Vote Leave, have been put to a halt out of respect for Jo Cox.
Prime Minister David Cameron cancelled the rally in Gibraltar in hearing of the news of the attack.
“It’s right that all campaigning has been stopped after the terrible attack on Jo Cox,” he recently said on Twitter.
Political activists are urged to be vigilant and take care during this time, although the motivation for the murder remains uncertain. The far-right Britain First spokesperson claims that calling of the party’s name during the attack is “pure hearsay” and blames the media for “incriminating” Britain First.
