If constituents vote with their wallets, then it is pretty clear that the Brexit referendum will fail, at least according to another meddling international organization. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development has put a price tag on the UK leaving the European Union. According to its research, released Wednesday it could end up costing British households about £2,200 within four years. The cost jumps to £3,200 each by 2030, which is the best case scenario. In the worst case, it the cost could be as high as €5,000 for each household.
The organizations research also concludes that the nation’s gross domestic product is expected to fall by 3% within the next four years. ““Leaving Europe would impose a Brexit tax on generations to come. Instead of funding public services, this tax would be a pure deadweight loss, with no economic benefit,” said OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría. Of course this could end up having a negative effect for the “Remain” campaign as I think Britons are getting tired of everyone voicing their opinions on the referendum. Although the world wants the UK to remain in the EU, mostly because they don’t want to deal with another major shock to the global economy, this is a domestic story and I think that it is time for the international community to bow out gracefully. The “Remain” side has managed to get a boost in the last few days; however, the vote is still pretty close to call.
