Clinton, Trump Neck and Neck In The Polls

We still aren’t even through the primary season but the national presidential race is heating up as the latest polls show that front-runner Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and presumptive Republican Candidate Donald Trump are pretty much neck and neck.

Wednesday, a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll showed a shift in the presidential race now that Trump has all but locked up this nomination and is now working on unifying the party. Hillary is still facing competition from Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders; however, she is the clearly front runner.

The national survey of 1,289 people found that 41% of people supported Clinton, at the same time 40% supported Trump and 19% were undecided.

The previous national survey, conducted by George Washington University, showed Trump trailing Clinton by three points.

Although national polls are close, I still don’t see how Trump can become president. Currently he is working to unify his party but he has his work cut out for him and I don’t think he is capable of offering his defeated opponents an olive branch.

I listened to the comments from Paul Ryan and I thought it was interesting that he would not throw his support behind Trump. He used a lot of flowery words and I lost count of how many times he said encouraging but it is obvious he still doesn’t trust the little-fingered bombastic candidate.

It is obvious that Ryan is going along to get along. As he pointed out Trump has brought a lot of people to the party so he can’t afford to make waves or he could lose his precarious position.

This is not a healthy stance for the Republicans. As much as people are talking about unifying the party it is interesting that some of the top Republicans are not going to attend the convention. Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is skipping the convention this year along 2008 Republican candidate John McCain, former President George W. Bush and his father former President George H.W. Bush.

As it is in his bombastic nature, Trump said, when asked for his opinion on the absentees, he didn’t care.

Unfortunately this is the wrong tactic. These are people who have been through an election and probably have a lot of good advice for him in what will be a contentious tight race. Trump instead of dismissing them, should be trying to welcome them with open arms and learn from them.

I think this is why ultimately Trump will never become president. People will realize that he is incapable of compromising.

He says he is a deal maker but in reality he is a bully; if you don’t do what he says, he will attack you with little remorse. He has shown over and over again how small and petty he is.

This is not what makes a great president and I think as November approaches people will wake up to that reality.
