The Fed Gets on Facebook

If you haven’t gotten enough of Fed Speak, it’s just about to get worse.

That's right, the Federal Reserve launched its Facebook page Thursday, with the "the aim of increasing the accessibility and availability of Federal Reserve Board news and educational content."

"Posts will include press releases, speeches, testimony, reports, educational materials, frequently asked questions, photos, and videos. With the launch of its Facebook page, the Board now shares information on five platforms including Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and LinkedIn," the Fed's press release said.

The page has already gathered 318 likes (not one of mine). Not much...A true testament of how Americans feel about the central bank?

As Reuters reported, although public opinion polls have taken a hit since the recession, a Gallup poll in 2014 found that nearly 40% of Americans considered the Fed was "doing an excellent or good job, while 14% said it was performing poorly."

My hunch? This was totally a millennial hire’s idea and the Fed, like almost everything else they do, just ran with it.
