Newly-appointed London mayor, Sadiq Khan, recently made history, not only for winning against a well-known multimillionaire but also because he is a Muslim. Of course, with Trump at the forefront of the Republican party, it was expected that both would comment on one another.
Khan stated that if Trump were elected, he would not want to visit the US. While he claimed wanting to visit the States before Trump was elected, Trump felt that the new mayor would be an ‘exception’ to his intended Muslim ban on entering the US. Many Americans supported the mayor’s win, including Hillary Clinton and New York mayor, Bill de Blasio.
Khan told NBC News that he wants Trump to visit him in London so that he can “introduce himself as a mainstream Muslim, very, very comfortable with Western liberal values”. He went on to say that there are millions of British Muslims who love being British and love being Western. This is what he would like to teach Trump, who called his views “alienating” and “ignorant”.
