At CNN’s town hall, House Speaker Paul Ryan said that his support for Trump was, in other words, due to a lack of a better option. At the town hall this morning, he said that “It is either Trump or Clinton, you don’t have a third option” claiming that the election is a “binary choice” and that Trump is the better candidate. When asked about Trump’s openly racist remarks referring to the Muslim ban and border control by building a wall, Ryan noted that he himself is also bothered by Trump’s remarks but that his positives outweigh his negatives.
"In the balance of things, the good clearly outweighs the things I don't agree with," he said. "We don't have people who run for office who 100% reflect all of our views. It doesn't work like that."
By not voting for Trump, he continued, means that “you're going to help elect Hillary Clinton -- and I don't think Hillary Clinton is going to support any of the things that you stand for if you're a Republican." Ryan believes that Clinton will provide another Obama term.
