With data taken from the Bureau of Economic Analysis and International Monetary Fund, a comparison of America’s GDP in 2015 was illustrated by matching the GDP of each state and foreign countries.
This puts the US $18 Trillion economy into perspective and how each state, on its own, is comparable to other countries’ GDP.
A few interesting comparisons:
With only 4.5% of the world’s population, in 2015, the US produced over 24% of the world’s GDP. That says something about the productivity and efficiency of the American workforce.
California, Texas and New York, the states with the highest stand alone GDPs, would rank in the world top 11 largest economies of 2015. Those states together produce the same amount as France, Brazil and Canada.
Saudi Arabia’s GDP of $653 billion was still below Pennsylvania state, even with all of its oil production.
