Break out the Champagne because Bernie Sanders has won a “major” victor; however, he is destroying the Democratic Party in the process. However, let’s take a look at Sanders’ latest “major” victor. Yes he earned 51.4% of the vote in the primary and won a whopping 18 delegates, seven more than his opponent Hillary Clinton. Yeah there is new momentum in his campaign but the reality is that he pretty much has the same chance of becoming president as I do – slim to none. Clinton has won a total of 2,240 Delegates, which includes 524 super delegates. Sanders has won a total of 1,472 delegates, which includes 40 super delegates. He is running out of money, time and is down in the polls in the remaining major primary votes including California and New Jersey but instead of bowing out gracefully and throwing his support behind Clinton, his is now driving a wedge the in the party. Donald Trump has all but secured his party’s nomination and already the chasm that he created with his divisive comments is already starting to close. Many republicans, who were strongly opposed to Trump’s candidacy are coming together for the good of the party to support him. For some people like Rand Paul it is probably a difficult pill to swallow but a necessary evil. Trump must be rubbing his small hands and tiny fingers together and salivating at what appears be to prolonged chaos among democrats. Every time Sanders open’s his month he provides more ammunition for Trump in the fall. However, this might be the point now. After tilting at windmills for most of his political career is Sanders a secret double agent who is actually in Trump’s pocket. I can’t think of any other reason why he would still be fighting for the nomination. The longer he stays in the more difficult time Clinton will have in wooing his supporters. In fact if emotions rise high enough in this extended battle, those Sanders’ supporters could easily flip to be Trump supporters. Yeah, Sanders has a lot of good ideas about income inequality and economic fairness and he probably would be an interesting President; he would definitely kick Trump’s but in a head-to-head race, but now he has to face reality. It’s time to pack up the placards and step aside to let Clinton and Trump battle it out in the national arena.
