If there is one takeaway from the much hyped interview between Fox’s Megyn Kelly and Donald Trump it’s that we should all give him a break. We need to cut him some slack because it is obviously not his fault for getting himself into hot water on almost a regular basis, it’s the fault of his retweets.
The logic follows, if there weren’t comments for Trump to retweet, he would be much more presidential.
For those of you who don’t have a sense of humor, I am being sarcastic. Trump is completely at fault for being a sexist and racist, and he should take responsibility for his actions – even his retweets!
His inability to take responsibility was highlighted by Kelly herself who tweeted one of his statements during the 16-minute interview.
This isn’t the first time he’s tried to dodge responsibility for his comments on social media.
During the tumultuous Republican primary race, the presumptive candidate made headlines retweeting inaccurate stats and for retweeting pledges of support from white supremacists.
In a need to feed his ego, he even retweeted a quote attributed to the fascist Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.
However, his lowest point on social media, where he received the harshest criticism, came when retweeted an image that negatively compared then opponent Ted Cruz’s wife Heidi to Melania Trump.
He regularly dismisses his actions saying that that they are “just retweets.” He is also on record stating it is not his responsibility to fact check everything people make up in their tweets that he then retweets.
However, just because he wasn’t the creator behind the stupid, racist and sexist tweets doesn’t mean that he is absolved of all responsibility.
He wants to be the President of the United States of America. At the very least, he should show that he has some intelligence to do some basic fact checking. Disseminating erroneous information for hype or to raise emotions among your base is probably worse than making the crap up yourself.
You can’t keep adding fuel to the fire and then just dust off the ashes.
Trump probably has an idea that the information he regurgitates is at best dubious but in the end, he doesn’t care because he is guided by one basic principal, summed up by Mark Twain: “Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story.”
Just_another_wiseguy advice to Trump: If you want to stop getting in trouble, STOP retweeting stupid inaccurate tweets.
