Last night on 60 minutes, Donald Trump and Mike Pence were interviewed for the first time together. ‘Awkard’, ‘sad’, ‘car crash’ ‘painfully tense’, were just some of the words that were circulating on social media.
“It’s probably obvious to people we have different styles,” Pence told Lesley Stahl. “I promise our vision is exactly the same.”
As they sat on Trump’s golden chairs during the interview, it was clear that Trump dominated the interview, repeatedly interrupting both Stahl and Pence. Pence spent the majority of the time on the sidelines while they talked about him as if he wasn’t even there. At one point, Trump gave Pence permission to speak before talking right over him. At another, Trump interjected, “I’m much more humble than you would understand.” Hmmmm, are you sure about that Trump?
Stahl pointed out, Pence had tweeted that Trump’s plan to bar Muslims from entering the United States was “offensive” and “unconstitutional.” Pence now insists that he supports the temporary ban.
When asked about their differences on supporting the Iraq War, Trump’s response to Pence supporting the war was, “He’s allowed to make mistakes.” Oh, thanks your Highness Trump!
Towards the end of the interview, Pence said: “This man is awed with the American people. He’s not intimidated by the world. And, Donald Trump, this good man, I believe, will be a great President of the United States.”
Trump’s response: “I love what he just said.” Brilliant
