WAIT! Throwing Out Your Boarding Pass Is a Bad Move
That little, rectangular piece of paper otherwise known as your boarding pass is treated as royalty and held tightly in your hand while boarding; after landing, it becomes just another great piece of paper to dispose of your gum.
Many of us simply dispose of it in the nearest trash can we can find.
But you might want to think twice before just chucking your boarding pass.
There is a ton of personal information frequently encrypted on the pass, according to Krebs on Security.
All a hacker has to do is get a screen shot of the bar code on the boarding pass, and feed it into a bar code reader on “Inlite’s” site. It was pointed out by a forensic expert for CBS, Winston Krone, that it is possible for the encrypted information on the bar code to contain personal email addresses, home addresses and phone numbers and….(EEEK!) access to personal financial information.
