Brexit Vote Hits Home; Texit Looming?

“Texit.” It’s so hot right now.

As the world continues to digest the surprise results of the UK referendum, which pushed the nation out of the European Union, our very own Lone Star State may be considering a similar fate.

That’s right, more than 260,000 Texans have already pledged their vote for Texas’ independence from the United States. Or as it has now been punned…“Texit.”

The Texas Nationalist Movement (TNM) is behind this push for independence and piggybanked off of the Brexit hype to push their cause.

On Friday, TNM president Daniel Miller said in a statement that it’s past time that the people of Texas “had their say on our continued relationship with the Union and its sprawling Federal bureaucracy.” He then told an Australian news outlet that it is not a matter of “if” but a matter of “when” the state will part ways with the U.S.

“The vast majority of the laws, rules and regulations that affect the people of Texas are created by the political class or unelected bureaucrats in Washington,” Miller added.

Is UK’s breakup with EU spilling over into the US? We’re going to have to wait and see…

However, there are over 26 million Texans and right now, the TMN only has the support of about 1% of the state’s population, so it’ll be quite an uphill battle to say the least. But, we can’t underestimate the power of nationalist media!
