Powerhouses Strike a Deal

The big announcement came this morning during Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference in Toronto; Microsoft and GE have formed a strategic partnership in the cloud computer field. Microsoft’s Azure, an open cloud-computing platform will now be available to GE’s Predix customers who use the cloud to manage big data. Their cross-functional capabilities will also allow Microsoft users to have access to Predix as an integrated part of the Azure Suite, making it simpler for their industrial customers to integrate their data into Microsoft’s applications.

"Every industry and every company around the world is being transformed by digital technology," says Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO in a statement announcing the partnership. "Working with companies like GE, we can reach a new set of customers to help them accelerate their transformation across every line of business — from the factory floor to smart buildings."

What will that mean for markets? Already this morning, GE shares were up 0.5% to $32.35, while Microsoft shares were up 0.57% to $52.60.
