San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has made headlines this week. During a preseason game this week against the Green Bay Packers, Kapernick decided not to stand during the national anthem. His reason - he can’t look the other way in a country “that oppresses Black people and people of color” when there are “bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
“This is not something that I am going to run by anybody,” he told NFL.com’s Steve Wyche. “I am not looking for approval. I have to stand up for people that are oppressed. … If they take football away, my endorsements from me, I know that I stood up for what is right.”
According to CBC Sports, Kaepernick made it clear that he does not support neither Trump nor Hillary Clinton. “I think the two presidential candidates that we currently have also represent the issues that we have in this country right now,” Kaepernick said. “You have Hillary [Clinton], who has called black teens or black kids super predators. You have Donald Trump, who is openly racist,” he continued.
Trump cannot hold back with the mention of his name. He fired back on Monday, suggesting that the quarterback “find a new country if he isn’t happy with the United States.”
“I think it’s — personally — not a good thing,” Trump said on a radio interview. “I think it’s a terrible thing, and you know, maybe he should find a country that works better for him. Let him try. It won’t happen.”
What do you think about his protest?
