Assessing Tools for Trading

Comment

The writers at Marketslant who write on the markets write from various perspectives: Research, Analysis, Opinion, News, with a large dose of conjecture.

We use various tools in market assessment. There are plenty of writers that give opinions on markets as we do. There are plenty that sell tools for assessing markets. We've used many. We'vedesigned a couple as well in use now. And found that in the best of them, it is the input that matters. And we are the inputters with bias. It is not easy telling readers we are bearish on Gold without ducking behind a rock. So we strive to differentiate between trading and investing. And we want to do more.

Technical Analysis is an Art

Ironically, the tools in technical analysis that lend themselves most to long term investing are subjective enough to get us killed if we swore by their analysis in the form of wave counts and what if's. One of our goals is to take the religion out of Precious Metals investing without alienating those who invest in them. And that is not easily done when the people that garner the most attention are just shrieking the "end is nigh" every day.

Marketing as Analysis

We also pride ourselves on calling out analysts who are just doing CYA reports. Like here: At what price does BMO "buy the dip" in Silver? Where a sales brochure covering as a research report was released to websites. BMO contacted us and we welcomed debate. They have since dropped their pursuit.

other examples include:

This is in addition to emerging events we analyze:

We feel a duty to point out marketing materials that present themselves as news based on our collective experiences. That can create our own bias. And can create cynicism As a result: Concepts and products can be unfairly dismissed or derided. And we acknowledge our own need to better understand how these more macro technical tools work to better serve our own tools like VBS.

Tools Shopping

And so we are now going to use, learn, and explain those products we feel are a help in traders making decisions. We have a good basis in Technical analysis, but as a tool in our kit of market understanding it's time to expand their use. We will not be compensated for our comments. If we recommend something, it is because we like it.

  • Tools we have experience with like Orc, Whentech, CSFB Trader  and  other option products will be discussed.
  • Indicators we use like Bollinger bands, RSI and candlesticks will be used more and explained
  • Algorithmic tools and"brown Box" tools- EW, Compression Models,Monte Carlo, PDE and  Physics Algos ( like Parallax) that we understand and "get" but must drill down on to be able to use with ease first.

Diverse Opinions

But we also will use the value that outside assessors can give on our own readers.  And there are several we already trust. We will use their opinions. But first we want an opinion of our own that is based on consilience of evidence from different disciplines. We are selling our intellectual capital here. And in a short time we believe our readers trust us. From zero to 20k views a day in 2 months, starting with our Brexit coverage. We'd like to continue adding value in that vein. This is not about money to most of us. We've  done that. This is about helping others see through the fog of financial war. our financia lendgame isn't the blog itself.
