Brazilian authorities arrested several members who were preparing acts of terrorism on the Olympic Games in Rio. It was unclear where the attack was taking place or what the operation specifics were.
Following the truck massacre in Nice last week, Brazilian federal police have increased security.
"All threats related to the Rio 2016 Games are being meticulously investigated, particularly those related to terrorism," the Brazilian intelligence agency ABIN said in a statement when asked to comment on the previously unknown group's claim of support for Islamic State.
The Games are scheduled to start on Aug 5 and are expected to attract over 500,000 foreign visitors.
