The Donald is starting to sound like a real politician.
On Monday, Republican candidate Donald Trump appeared on Maria Bartiromo’s “Mornings with Maria” on Fox Business to talk about his upcoming meeting with House Speaker Paul Ryan and top republican officials.
Now that the Donald has become the presumptive nominee for the party, Republicans want to meet with him on Thursday to make sure his platform is in line with the GOP’s principles.
“I think it’s a time for unity,” he said. But, if no understanding can be found, Trump is confident in his campaign.
“I think I’m going to win the race either way, if you want to know the truth, because Hillary Clinton is a disaster for this country,” he said.
Over the weekend, the Donald made comments about wages and tax policy, which made some Republican officials uneasy. During the interview, Bartiromo played a clip for Trump of U.S. representative Sean Duffy talking about the candidate and the upcoming meeting with Republicans.
“[Trump’s] talking about changing tax policy and raising taxes. He’s also changing position on wages,” Duffy said. “We want to button him down and ask him where we are going to go if he becomes president.”
Trump’s response?
“First of all, Sean Duffy is a fantastic guy,” Trump said.
But more importantly, Trump addressed the tax concern. According to the billionaire real estate mogul, he does not plan to raise taxes and his comments were “misreported” by NBC.
“I put in a proposal – because that’s all it is, it’s not policy- it’s a proposal. I put out a massive tax decrease, the biggest cut of any candidate in the running,” he explained.
So essentially, Trump said that given that proposals are up for discussion, he may be forced to raise taxes from his already low proposal, and the rise would affect the highest earners.
“I’m not talking about raising them from where they are now, I’m talking about raising from my low proposal,” he said.
Sounds very presidential to me….
